by on Dec.27, 2009, under journalism, Technology

For the past couple months I have been following my Twitter pal Shauna and her recent decision to leave the corporate world and start up her own company. Being the inquisitive person I am I decided the news was the best place to find out more about that great leap she recently took. This story aired on December 11th, 2009.

Detroit Blight

by on Dec.17, 2009, under Adventures

A couple months back I took a trip to Wilmington North Carolina. I saw this abandoned building and thought this was an interesting way to add some life to a lifeless structure. I know doing this to every abandoned building in Detroit would be a little redundant but it couldn’t hurt to add a little life.

Press kit no no’s

by on Dec.13, 2009, under media analysis

I was recently rummaging through some artist submissions to WXOU and came across this “one sheet”. A one sheet is a valuable tool that you include with your press packages (kits). In your one sheet you should include a bio, press worthy photo, and any other information that might help a music director or journalist select you.

Below is an example of a one sheet sent to the radio station that I work with. While this does do a good job at grabbing your attention is does not do a good job at reaching a main stream audience. I would not recomend sending anything you could not show your mother. If you have anything questionable you should probally run it by a group of friends first. Good luck with your future promotions and keep checking back for more great interviews and commentary!

Interview with Brandon Kirkley

by on Dec.13, 2009, under media analysis, Rock

I first met Brandon at Free Radio Charlotte on the campus of UNCC (University of North Carolina Charlotte). Free Radio Charlotte is a brand new college radio station that Brandon Kirkley is currently working on establishing at the University. I initially was visiting the station to talk to to the General Manager in hopes of interviewing someone for the book I am doing research for. It turns out Brandon Kirkley and the General Manager of Free Radio Charlotte are one in the same. We met later on that month at a coffee shop and Brandon was able to show me a little southern hospitality!

Interview with Boog Brown

by on Dec.03, 2009, under Adventures

My interview with Boog Brown is the winner for “most edited for radio”. This is the unedited version. I had the wonderful opportunity to speak with Boog in Atlanta Georgia this past October. We met at the train station and cruised over to this cool little spot with an interesting menu. After being down south for a couple months it was refreshing to meet Boog and dish it up about Detroit. I’m sure you will enjoy this interview, Boog is doing big things and you should definitely keep your ears and eyes open for her upcoming projects.
