Radio Interview with Brother Bear

by on Aug.19, 2012, under Folk

I have been coming to the same coffee house and working for at least two years now. Occasionally there would be musician playing while I was working. Not to be rude, but none of them really jumped out at me, perhaps I am overwhelmed by cover songs. One evening I was ordering my drink and was struck on the ear drum by an interesting song about Jesus. Maybe my secular upbringing conditioned me to find this out of the ordinary and drew me towards his songs. Well I learned that his stage name was Brother Bear  and like many artists before I decided to invite him on the show. Recently, SAC and I got to sit down with Barak Bendixen, also known as Brother Bear, and discuss his musical stylings. I am very grateful for SAC’s presence at this interview due to the religious nature of the discussion that I am not particularly equipped to deal with. Take a listen and enjoy!

SXSW Interview with Skinny Lister

by on Jul.08, 2012, under Folk

I met Dan (bass playing Dan) on the bus coming home one night. We started talking and I found out he was in an awesome group from England and that they were going to be playing a bunch of shows the next day for all of the St. Patrick’s Day festivities in Austin. I specifically remember telling him that is I didn’t hear from him the next morning I was going to hit up hit publicist to get an interview with the band. Before I got off the bus Dan got into an awesome verbal battle with one of the Austin natives and began exchanging “yo mama” insults. The next day we were able to meet up and since the day that week I have seen these guys traveling all across America. Take a listen and enjoy!

SXSW Interview with Hey Chica!

by on May.26, 2012, under Folk, Rock

Hey Chica is one of the friendliest bands you will ever meet. If I ever head to Mexico I am hiring them all as my tour guides and we will explore far and wide. Hey Chica is from Guadalajara and have very unique perspectives of the drug war Americans often hear about on the nightly news. They also have fantastic shoes! Take a listen to our conversation and enjoy!

Interview with The Macpodz

by on Aug.01, 2011, under Adventures, Folk, Rock, Soul

Recently I took a new job and it keeps me on the road many days a year. Sometimes I find myself in the most boring small towns imaginable. One such town was Mt. Pleasant, unless you are a college kid looking to get drunk there really isn’t much to do in this town. After dinner one night this spring I decided to take a stroll through down town, which shuts down earlier than Flint. I looked down one side street and saw a marquee for a small venue and the name “The Macpodz”, in movable letters, indicated that they were playing that night. Having no way to get a hold of them, seeing as how I have never met them before, I left them a note with the lady tending the bar saying to give me a call if they’d like to do an impromptu interview that night. An hour later back at the hotel I got a call from Brennan of the Macpodz and we made the interview happen. This is what great interviews are made of take an unedited listen to the whole interview here. Enjoy!

Radio Interview with Emily Rose (2010)

by on Aug.25, 2010, under Folk

This is the third time I have had Emily on my show. In my opinion there is never to many times to have Emily down to the station. She read my palm again and played us some new music. Emily has won Folk song writer of the year again at the Detroit Music Awards (two years in a row). This young lady is definitely doing something worth listening to and watching. Enjoy!

The first time I met Lake Louise she was known as Angela Smith. I had the privilege of judging her performance at Oakland University’s Rising Stars. OU Rising Stars is Oakland’s equivalent to American Idol. Lake Louise is a singer song writer who plays guitar and piano. This interview also includes a live performance. Listen and enjoy!

Radio Interview with Emily Rose

by on May.12, 2010, under Folk

Emily Rose is a great friend of mine. Not to mention she is hands down one of my moms favorite artists that I have worked with. This is my first interview with Emily (come to think of it another interview with her is long overdue). I don’t believe we even had planned on interviewing anybody on that night, she just happened to be on the show before ours (which was hosted by Drew Dawson a great photographer I have also interviewed) and decided to stick around and speak with us. Take a look and listen towards the past with this great conversation.

Interview with Stacie Rose

by on Mar.28, 2010, under Folk, Rock

Squeezing everything into a busy schedule can take a toll on the quality of my work at times. This is one of those times. Although I am very pleased with the interview. Interviewing  while driving to work does not provide the best sound quality. Stacie is a wonderful musician from New Jersey! She was very engaging as an interviewee and I hope she reaches the stars. Take a listen!
